Terra Mama

Though I have deliberated myself away from landscape painting in the last few years, the sky sometimes sneaks back in - sneaky sky. The theme that pops out here - that has appeared over and over again - is the open-eyed fascination with the land from the sky, and with the extent to which the marks of domain criss-cross the land: as far as the eye can see.

On a technical level, this painting employs thickly applied layers of pigmented medium, which I then carve into and paint on top of. The result is a richly textured, complex surface that resonates with the emotional/spiritual content of the image.
